Day 21: Sunset

This is a photograph I took while in Canada for the new year.  While I was there, I met my fiance’s family and he took me to see some of his favorite places.  This was a trail area called Jack Pine Trail that was amazing and beautiful.  I loved my time there and this moment, with the sun setting was so serene and peaceful.  (And cold!)

Engaged

So there has been a lot happening the last few days!!  Nic flew in on Wednesday and we’ve been spending the time since then together.  We’ve had a lot of fun doing a variety of things and we’ve explored some parts of the Twin Cities together.   It has been a wonderful visit so far.

Nothing about our relationship has been conventional.  We have had a long distance relationship for the entire time we’ve been together.  Our 3 1/2 years together have been wonderful and we’ve made it through quite a bit of stuff together.  He’s stood beside me through thick and thin just as I have done the same for him.  We make things work through texting daily, phone calls, and weekly dates where we watch the same tv show episodes or movies together while chatting on an instant messenger.  During our dates, we’ll each have our web cams on so we can see one another as well.

Going through what we did last August when I was denied entry to Canada and not getting to see one another for a year and a half really tested us and solidified our relationship.  It was a hard time for the both of us but it really brought us together and really helped each of us realize that our futures were meant to be spent with one another.  The experience also led to me going back to school to earn myself a college education.

It was all of this that led to me continuing the unconventional aspect of our relationship with one another and this afternoon, I asked Nic to marry me using the video below.  The pictures are gathered from pictures of our times together and of various points in our adulthood.  After watching the video, the first thing he said to me was “Wow, you really did do it.”  (We’d had a conversation about what he thought about chicks asking guys to marry them instead of waiting around at one point.)  Then, he looked at me, got a little smile on his face and said yes.

So… we are engaged.  Obviously, being so new, we don’t have details planned out or anything really.  But as things progress, I will be sure to keep you posted.

Until Next Time,

Sarah
